busy as a B

i've noticed in a lot of my classes that i ahve been taking this smester have shopuld ways to teache strudents. lesson plans, etc. some i think are good but teh majority of them i feel to be busy work. some of this things are making stduents do all this elaborate work to learn a vocabulary word or something. sometimes i feel that there is too much busy work in school. i feel that i coul dbe teacher college classes if i was told lets have the students learn a new cool way to learn one word and take two weeks to cover this really cool way to learn. learning is fun kids. blah blah.

it seems that there are a lot of buzz words to make it sound like what the stduents are doing is cool, fun, their learning, etc. but take the buzz word aside and they are just doing busy work. i think there are better ways for students to learn than busy work. busy work makes kids frustrated, give up in school and a lot of is NOT fun....

double trouble

i feel that some students are unfairly treated by teachers for really no reason. my biggest problem is when teachers mis treat students with special needs. physical or cognitive it seems that those students get pciked on by teachers and are treated like animals. when i did my currins 100 class i was in an specail needs classroom and the teachers treated the students like animals. made them sit in corners, yelled atthem, told them your stupid, etc etc. on one occasion i went down with a student to the office to drop something off in the office. teh stduent i was with decided to dress up that day and had a tie and button down on with nice pants. the secratary said, "all dressed up but no where to go." i was thinking how could this lady say this. just because he has specail needs he cant dress up. the sowrst part about this though is that some students with special needs dont even realize they are being made fun of, or living by different rules.... but i guess its not totally th eteachers fault they treat their students like animals... becasue when you hire monkeys as teachers what do you expect.....

equal

equal rights, something that has been a center point of so many debates for so long. especially equal rights in the classroom. the working class or the inner city is significantly behind in schooling then the upper class. the lower class is always behind the 8 ball. it is important that each student gets a fair share, everyone should have the right to a good education.

in the soe at uwm urban setting is the focal point of teahing. its nice to have a fist hand experince of what is really happening. reading in an articel is one thing but living it and being in teh classroom and seeing it is a lot different. the teachers i have worked with have been nothing short of idiot slave drivers. yelling at the kids and mistreating them. how can it be so hard to get a job now of days when the teachers that are being complained about in articles of our reali life situations are always there. the etachers that i have had to work with in currins 100 were ridiculious. how do these teahcers stay.i think that eachers especially in an inner city have a huge impact. if the students personal life isnt teh best they shoul dhave an outlet at school. it is important that studnets feel cared for at school.

PBL

im doing a quiz for my part of the PBL presentation. im going to have a quiz that is set up for an 8th grader. i think it is going to be a like jay walking from jay leno. the questions that i will be asking are rooted from standrds from from the state of wisconsin that the state wants to teachers to have there students know by teh end of teh eyar. looking at the standards it looks very hard to know everything they want. my qesution foucses on teh scope and sequence of making a good lesson plan. the good thing about teh standards is that it gives you some kind of guideline to work from. the only problem is taht there is so much and a lot seems to go into very specific detail. i thinks its up to teh teacher to decide whats improtant and what can be left out. when i was going through some of the standards i had a very difficult time knowing teh answers to a lot of questions that are expected to have answers to from 8th grade studenst according to the wisconsin stantards...

middle/junior high

i remember this time in my life... this is when i was waaaaaaay too cool for school... or at least i thought. but i was way off. its funny, they power students thi sage think they get once the hit junior high. parenst rules are way to strick and why cant you just hang with your friends all day.?. . ?

thats how its was whne your that age. all you want to do is be cool. school at times becomes secondary. although its a huge part in a childs life for development, being cool takes first. junior high brings about alot of changes for kids. they start seeing things differently. but i dont want to forget about how imporatnt school is. this is really a time where the studnets really start to make connections in school, start to critically think about the subjects they are taking in school.

middle/junior high is a time to find yourself. not only in the classroom but as a person. it is a great stepping stone into highschool and beyond.... even though your too cool for school.

YOUTH

"kids now of days."........ this article gave an insight on teh youth of america and the problems that we face. that children are having problems and struggling in school and so on and so fourth. how do we as teachers improve upon this?? a teacher cant just be teaching the reading writing and math. they have to teach life skills. and at times reall really focus on life skills. there is more important things top living life that answers to a etst. teachers have to be there for their students to be a role model in life. not just force them to learn the capitols of the usa.

i read another article in sports illustraed about high schools in oakland. and how about most D1 athletes are getting killed simply beasue they are good. great athletes are now choosing not to play becasu ethey are affraid they might get killed for being succesful at something. what is this world coming to when you are succesful that people are that against you they have to kill you. students killing other students becasue they won a basketball game.

there is a problem with the youth today. but how does it end? it seems to be getting worst. parenst have to get invloved and i think teachers have to be there for help when it comes to life situations. take a time out from the nbooks and help them succed in everyday life...
sorry i have missed spelled the word article the last two weeks....
